If a couple divorces, and under what circumstances they should return the wedding gifts?
My daughter who is nearly 24 moves back home temporarily as she is divorcing her husband. They have been married only 11 months. This is very embarrassing for my husband and I welcomed him as a wedding very enjoyable for them. I'm not sure what they must make the gifts. Obvously money has been spent and the proverbial toaster has been used here. Not only that, I'm not sure he could not even remember what gave him a gift. What is proper etiquette in these circumstances? By the way ,…. My husband and I are very happy that she is divorcing this man and we fully support his decision — he never liked in the first place. I just had a couple of nosy relatives ask me what to do with the "gifts" and they were married less than a year. With no expereince with the divorce I did not know what to do. Thanks for all your answers.
The only circumstance in which the gifts must be returned is if the wedding was canceled. In this case, there was a marriage. It is totally inappropriate in this case for the family that asked for the gifts who gave a wedding. If anyone still in their packages and the gift giver is to be a pain, which could send back, but certainly not necessary, because as I said the return of the gifts is just the term if there is no marriage.
